Creature Comforts – Day 12 & 13, Cushy, cozy B-MO!

I was already to post something last night when my iPad ran out of battery power. I thought about posting this morning instead, but then I got caught up in finishing the B-MO pillow. So here is the picture I was going to post yesterday…

B-MO ready for sewing!

B-MO pieces ready to be sewn!

And then today I took this picture!

B-MO is all done!

“Who wants to play video games?!”

You should know, this is the ONLY thing I got done today, aside from yoga and making my bed. It took me hours to get the appliques done on B-MO, but now he’s finally done! And I am going to cuddle up with him tonight and watch a couple of episodes of “Adventure Time!”

Oh, I also took a photo of the cozy purple hat of DOOOOOOM that I finished on Monday…

Giant Purple Hat of DOOOOOOM!!

Doesn’t Pixie look lovely?!

Aaaaaaaaaaaand I did a litle work on this project…

Granny squares!

“Who’s your granny?”

I have a total of 64 squares to stitch together and then I’ll have a lovely blanket that won’t match my pillow at all, but will still feel pretty cozy 🙂

So yeah, I’ve been busy this week. Time to cuddle with B-MO now. Good night!

Creature Comforts – Day 11, Making more cushy pillow goodness!

I finished the hat. I just had a few rows left to do on the band so I knocked those out today. Then I went to work on the NEXT project…

B-MO!!

“Who wants to play video games!!!”

Yay! B-MO! I love B-MO, and I desperately need cushy, cuddly pillows for the living room couch. I’ve still got the ratty old camoflague pillow I bought 24 years ago when I was first in the Army Reserves. It desperately needs to be replaced. So I’m making a B-MO pillow and I’m making another character pillow to go with it. I won’t say which character yet. I’ll show you that when I get to work on it 🙂

Creature Comforts – Day 07, Black Cat Bolster!

Black Cat Bolster!

“Yay! I’m finished!”

So this is what I’ve been working on the last couple days. I’ve been wanting a bolster for a while now. I like to have something beneath my knees when I sleep; it makes me more comfortable. But I specifically wanted a kawaii style bolster, like the ones in this book…

“Sew Kawaii” by Choly Knight

I love this book. I bought it last year, but this is the first time I’ve had a chance to work on any of the projects in it. It’s also the first time I’ve worked with fleece and the first time I’ve done an applique. I think I did okay. The bolster certainly feels comfy!

You can find the book here – “Sew Kawaii” by Choly Knight. Definitely check it out! Now I’m going to curl up in bed with my new bolster 🙂

Creature Comforts – Day 05, Preparing for Something Fleecy

Fleece bean bags

Are you blind yet?

So, I made some bean bags today…

No, they’re not for the Creature Comforts theme. They’re for the local Girl Scout cookie rally coming up on Friday. My troop is running a couple stations, and one will have a bean bag game, so I made these. And what does any of that have to do with the Creature Comforts project?

First, Girl Scout cookie season pretty much eats up my life for three months every year. I’m trying to avoid letting that happen this year by being a little more organized and by making my personal work (as opposed to my volunteer work) more of a priority.

Second, I needed to practice sewing with fleece for the next Creature Comforts project. Hancock Fabrics had fleece on sale last week, and I bought a bunch of remnants, along with some heavy duty sewing needlesand other items, to make something I desperately want but haven’t had time to work on. Something that’s just for me, and that I know will be nice and cozy during the frigid months of Girl Scout cookie season.

Third, I did spend today doing a supply run to get all that I needed for making the next project, and I think that counts as work on the Creature Comforts theme.

Fourth, I have been told by at least three people today that these are the nicest, comfiest bean bags they’ve ever seen.  So I made not have made them for the Creature Comforst theme exactly, but they do fit in. Sort of.

I’ll be cutting fabric and sewing tomorrow and should have a shot of the project in progress soon. For now, sweet tight and dream of bean bags.

Krampus Challenge – Day 23, A Wicked Skirt

So I’ve switched gears from crochet to sewing and am back at work on my outfit for Christmas Eve Mass, better know around here as “Drag-Your-Buddhist-to-Church Day.” I’ve got a lovely long skirt in pieces at the sewing machine right now, and I decided I wanted to applique something to it. So I spent the evening cutting out this…

“Ahoy there, ye scurvey dogs!”

Gorgeous, isn’t she? And she has two sisters, just waiting to be cut out as well. I think I’m only going to get this one appliqued to the skirt, but it’s a perfect match for the colors of the skirt fabric! And it will go with the Krampus Cowl I made at the beginning of the month. So I should look wonderful for tomorrow evening 😀

Krampus Challenge – Day 05, Krampus Cowl in progress

Krampus Cowl!

We are a little further along!

Actually, I had hoped to have another 3-4 stripes done on this cowl, but I discovered I’d made a mistake… About 3-4 rows after I had made it. So I ended up tearing out an hour’s worth of work and starting over again for the day.

But that’s okay! Mistakes happen, things have to be torn out, and we all have to start all over again from time to time. At least that’s the lesson I try to teach Pixie and Princess whenever they work on a project. And we’ve been starting a lot of new projects lately, especially Pixie. She got a set of knitting looms two weeks ago and has been learning to use those. Then this week she got a new sewing machine! Not a kid’s sewing machine that uses glue or string to put fabric together, but an actual Singer sewing machine that uses actual thread, and has a bobbin and real needle. We set it up today and I watched while Pixie sewed a very basic pillow first and then started work on something a little more complicated. That’s probably about the time I made my mistake on the Krampus Cowl, but that’s okay. I got to watch my youngest figure out how to thread her sewing machine and set up the bobbin, figure out how to pin fabric and run it through the machine. There’s nothing like watching a kid catch fire over a new hobby.

But if she breaks into my yarn or fabric stashes, I will squish her like a bug. Just between you and me.

October Crochet – Day 29, All Spun Out

Crochet Web!

Oh what a tangled web I wove!

Well, I reached the end of the skein today. Only a few inches before completing the last round.

Dang it!

I think I will unravel the last round just a bit and make the unfinished portion the neckline. I will start on the second web on Halloween. For now, I’m going to focus on the Nautilus shawl.

If you look closely at the picture, you can see the costumes I’m sewing for the kids. One wants to be a Jedi. The other wants to be Kylo Ren. My kids never get along.
